The new game by Don Naipe is Tute Subastado, one of the classic Spanish deck games.
Tute Subastado, also known as "subastao," is a popular variant of the Tute game for three players that is extremely entertaining. It is played with a Spanish deck of 36 cards, removing the twos from the classic deck of 40 cards. In each round, all cards are dealt, with 12 cards assigned to each player, and the trump suit is not indicated. The main feature of Tute Subastado is a bidding round where each player bets the number of points they believe they can win with their cards. The player who bets the most points wins the bid, chooses the trump suit, and leads.
After the bidding phase, the game proceeds similarly to traditional Tute. The bidder will try to make at least the declared points, while the other two players will team up to block them. The bidder can declare after winning a trick starting with 40 points if they have multiple declarations. The winner of the last trick collects the 10-point bonus.
At the end of the round, the scoring takes place. If the bidder makes at least the bid points, they score accordingly. Otherwise, the opponents split the bid points. The first player to reach the target score wins the game.
As always, we have strived to preserve the essence of the original game. Thus, there is no reshuffling between rounds to make hand distribution more irregular, favoring long suits and mistakes. Moreover, the minimum bid is set at 60 points, and there are no further bids allowed to enhance game dynamics: a low bidder will often lose or miss out on scoring opportunities.
Tute Subastado is currently only available in single-player mode. The AI has been meticulously crafted, and we are pleased with the outcome: at higher levels, bots bid strategically and play skillfully (both in bidding and defending). Intermediate-level bots bid somewhat erratically and do not optimize their gameplay. Lastly, lower-level bots offer a lesser challenge, bidding with poorer judgment and playing predictably.
In Tute Subastado, we have included all our characters: Ramona, Jero, Lucio, Icecube, Manolito... Additionally, numerous phrases have been added to enhance gameplay.
We have incorporated 30 different achievements to fully enjoy the game, along with three distinct scoreboards to compete with friends and all Tute Subastado players.
